Privacy Policy
Last updated 13 June 2026
This policy explains what Newspoken collects when you use Newspoken, why, and the choices you have. We collect as little as we can to run the app well.
What we collect
Information you give us
- Account details — your email address when you create an account or join the early-access list.
- Preferences — the news categories you choose and your notification settings.
Information collected automatically
- Learning activity — which words you’ve seen, saved, or shared, so spaced repetition works and your history is yours.
- Device & usage data — app version, device type, and basic analytics events to fix bugs and improve the experience.
How we use it
- To deliver your daily word and keep your learning history.
- To send the notifications and emails you’ve opted into.
- To operate, secure, and improve the Service.
- To process subscriptions (via the app stores — see below).
Shared words
When you share a word, we create a public web page for that word so the person you send it to can open it without installing the app. That page shows the word and its context — it does not reveal your identity, email, or account.
Who we share data with
We don’t sell your personal information. We share limited data with:
- App stores (Apple, Google) for subscriptions and payments — we never see your full card details.
- Service providers (hosting, email, analytics) who process data on our behalf under contract.
- Authorities, only where the law requires it.
Your choices
- Turn notifications on or off in the app at any time.
- Request a copy of your data, or its deletion, by emailing us. We’ll respond within the timeframe your local law requires.
- Unsubscribe from emails using the link in any message.
Data retention & security
We keep your data only as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, then delete or anonymise it. We use industry-standard safeguards to protect it, though no method of transmission is completely secure.
Children
Newspoken isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we’ll remove it.
