The practice of replacing certain words with euphemisms or modified terms to avoid being flagged, censored, or demonetized by automated content moderation algorithms.
Etymology
A portmanteau of 'algorithm' and 'newspeak', the latter being a fictional language from George Orwell's novel '1984' designed to diminish the range of thought. It emerged in the early 2020s to describe the linguistic adaptations users make to navigate social media moderation.
