Relating to or characteristic of a society characterized by great suffering, oppression, or misery, often used to describe a grim or nightmarish future.
Etymology
The word is derived from the Greek prefix 'dys-' (meaning bad or difficult) and the word 'utopia' (coined by Thomas More from Greek 'ou', meaning no, and 'topos', meaning place). It essentially describes a 'bad place' or a society that has gone terribly wrong.
