Definition
A business or operation that recruits high-rolling gamblers, especially to casinos, often by arranging travel and credit for them.
Etymology
Originating from the 14th-century Old North French 'jonquette' (a basket made of rushes), the word originally referred to a type of cream cheese served on rushes; it evolved over centuries to mean a banquet or feast, and later, an official's pleasure trip at public expense, before being applied to gambling operations.
