Etymology
The word is a portmanteau created by combining 'neuro-' (from the Greek 'neuron,' meaning nerve) and 'diversity' (from the Latin 'diversitas,' meaning variety). It was coined in the late 1990s by sociologist Judy Singer to describe the natural spectrum of human cognitive differences.
