Definition
A hypothetical tunnel or passageway through space-time that connects two distant points, often used in science fiction to allow for travel between different locations or realities.
Etymology
Coined by American theoretical physicist John Wheeler in 1957, the term uses the metaphor of an apple worm boring a hole through the fruit to represent a shortcut between two points on the surface.
